Hi guys,
I love the show, thank you for putting it together. I have no idea how you guys find the time... I know the time and work commitment you put in each weak must be extraordinary.
You recently described a ZFS backup strategy in which mirrored sets are rotated in and out of a pool like a tape backup. I have some questions about these "hot swapping" backup approaches:
1. When an "old" set is brought back online, does it undergo a full resilver?
2. Can you comment on Jordan Hubbard's implication that hot swapping hard drives damages their electronics? [1]
3. After unmounting file systems, what more should I do before hot-unplugging the drives? e.g. is there a camcontrol command I should issue? [2]
4. How do you guarantee that each drive in the mirrored set was offlined at the same instant in time? Or perhaps you don't need to?
Thanks again,
Chris
