When I became a member I had already started a project to connect all LoCos in Africa. Being a member has opened many doors for me.  Almost all the Africa locos are or were dead (missing in action) Bit by bit I have managed to find 10, of which only 3 are still verified albeit badly depleted https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AfricanTeams

other than the ZA team which keeps going with odd increases in numbers.

 

I was shocked to find that similar situations exist worldwide.

Somewhere something just isnt working anymore. When times change one has to go with the flow and change accordingly.

 

When talking about adding the 20.00 UTC timeslot it doesnt just cover new applicants but also their supporters who may want to take part in the process of applying for membership. This whole business is not so much about the membership board as such. but also about the actual applicants and their supporters. It is an exciting time when a friend applies for membership.

 

I remember for me it was a nerve wracking experience and was wonderful to have za team members supporting me. I am sure many, like me, will not apply if not supported from by local community

 

Let's be honest, for many new members it may be a highlight in their life and often a major challenge to overcome, for most of them not something they can do during normal working hours. Although it might not lead to a sudden flood of new applicants applying for membership I am sure it will catch on and become the most popular time. Please let's bare in mind that this is not about us as board members, in my opinion we do this freely and out of our own choice to further serve the community. There are already 5 members who have agreed to do the 20.00 and 22.00 timeslots and you yourself are also online a that time. Please reconsider
